We're not professional tasters. But that doesn't stop us from trying new things. So grab a glass and relax.
So in the past two weeks, we got some big reveals in the Nintendo news. We got Pokemon, brilliant diamond, and shining, and shining pearl. Thank you. Thank you, Pat. Gotcha. I'm so excited. I am extremely excited. Yep. Where? We're 21 year olds who? Who are obsessed with Pokemon just a little bit. Oh, at least I am. Big time.
0:44
I absolutely love those games. One of my favorite game series I've ever played.
0:48
There's a big part of my childhood. A huge part. Yeah, I
0:51
made so many friends who those games just spent countless hours grinding, shiny hunting, replaying them anything you could think of.
1:01
And that's exactly what we're probably going to be talking about today. For the most part, we might get sidetracked. You know how they should goes. Yeah, instead of learning today, we have somebody new. We have a good friend of mine here named Pat. How you doing? Pat? I'm good. I'm happy to be here. My name is Chris, per usual, your host, and welcome to tipsy talk. And we're just really pumped for these games. Yeah, we're beyond excited. Because Pokemon DS are remakes. Right? So wrecked Pokemon,
1:28
they tend to release a new generation they call it in a generation is like when it normally starts with a new region. And then sometimes our three throw in a remake or something that likes bringing back something from the past.
1:41
Yeah, every time there's a new generation, there's like 100 Plus, well lately, there's been less so like 80 plus new Pokemon, so like right now I
1:49
think there's over what over 100 at least over 800 For I know that for a fact it might be it might be over 900 now
1:55
there's like 900 of these tiny monsters. There you go. I don't even know why I got to explain this. So you don't know what Pokemon is. You either just had a shitty childhood. Or you're a bum or you're a bum? Or you're just one of those people that likes to make fun of people who play Pokemon but secretly you're playing Emerald on your phone? Yeah, I know who you are, sir. They're out there. Big time. I know so many people that say to such a child for playing Pokemon, by the way Brb, I gotta go. I gotta go play Emerald on my phone. Even Pokemon Go like exactly tire world was playing that that was a crate that was a crazy year.
2:29
That was the last time the road new piece. I think it was 16 that summer actually came out I mean it lasted for like
2:35
a summer everybody was on the streets catching Pokemon
2:38
era Yeah, like we obviously put to the regular fans still play it like I still play that game pretty regularly.
2:44
I try to every now and then
2:45
it's hard to keep track especially with the obviously ongoing pandemic and not traveling as much not seeing like getting out getting out of your house as much I still log in they just actually added some of the Pokemon from sword and shield really they added a whoo the sheep dude squoval the squirrel polarion daru maka and our manna tan I think they have is Austrian ism as n 10 raise now as well.
3:11
So did they already added stuff from levels the last one for sun and moon? They added all those ones now. And then
3:18
they add a couple. Yeah, now they really haven't added many from Sun and Moon a while I'm
3:23
gonna pause you for a second hold on to that thought. Everyone who listened to last week's episode. You probably remember Shelley my tortoise. We're having similar issues called PETA. Yeah, have you fallen on the stairs? You know not just give me one moment. So what were you saying?
3:39
Yes, so they just recently added a couple of the gallery Pokemon into Pokemon Go right right. haven't added many of the lower region Pokemon. I mean, they I think they just added a couple of original variants.
3:51
I can't get into that game. Like I can't get into go a lot because I want the legendaries but there's never anybody at the raids. Yeah, and I damn know that all the people with the shiny new tattoos and the shiny valtos and whatever. They're hacking that shit.
4:04
Oh, yeah, I know they are at that right have a nice ass group of friends. I could go with them and just do mad raids until they get the shiny
4:12
when pokemon go first came out. It was just you know the original 150 Pokemon. Yeah. Which I hope everyone is familiar with like, you know, like pika Chu. magic card. And speaking of magic cart, it took 500 magic cart. No 500 magic card candies to evolve one magic card into a damn girders.
4:31
They have a bunch of Hogan like that now, really? All taria is 400 swago candys norburn is 400 I don't think there's any from seno but a lot of cyno Pokmon. I'm sure most of you know that a lot of SR Pokmon got evolutions from passbook in mind like mag Martin mag mortar, let the boys into rectifier. There's a special item he called a pseudo stone the same as well for univa. Don't think any other reasons yet.
4:59
The cool thing about this no Pokemon are the new variants that Oh, hearing. And what is archaea? Yes. So along with the remakes that we were talking about earlier, which were the brilliant pearl and ball, my god brilliant diamond and shining pearl. They announced another new game, which is like the first like, time they've done something like this. It's not a remake. It's a it's a prequel,
5:22
not so much a prequel as it's just a time period. 1000s like, take a quick 1000 2000 years ago, whatever, in the central region, so it's like the snow before the snow. They haven't released much about the story itself yet, but we just know that um, Isn't this an original like a time very long ago?
5:43
It's kind of crazy because a lot of the characters that they already revealed our ancestors Yeah, of the characters that are in the original
5:50
Diamond and Pearl games. Yeah, they have the SSN for Professor Rowan one is? I believe, Cyrus's
5:56
but she's like your commander too. Yeah. Weird.
5:59
Yeah, Tracy, so they're calling it the St. Louis region. Now.
6:02
I was just about to say that actually. So wait, I actually didn't look too much into the new game. I saw a lot about the remakes, but not the new game. Yeah. Did they say why it's called the hisui instead of say no,
6:12
I think it's just because of the time period the reason we know is going to become the the central region is because the town you see at the beginning of the trailer is called Juba life village. Yeah, one of the first locations you go to and diamond oboro is Jubal. City. Yeah, so you know that it's going to grow into the center region. Also mount cornet is there, which I think is just to call that Coronet
6:32
when I first started playing Pokemon, it was actually the it started me off. Like I love video games. We've talked about video games on the podcast before and how we talked about in that episode a lot about how it's like an escape and like how it's just fun to immerse yourself in these stories and stuff. Yeah, well, my first game period was Emerald. Okay, and fire red leaf green. I got all three of those at the same time. Wow. For Christmas along with a gameboy color. Not so good as Christmas. We may be young, but Gameboy colors were that was my childhood. Yep. And I think we've gone from Gameboy to PS five and 1516 years. That's why it's insane. Well, actually, you know, in my mind, it was like 10 years but now they said the truth.
7:22
Probably a little bit longer than NBA 20 I'm not sure exactly what year the Gameboy came out. And they came out with in our lifetime.
7:30
Yeah. And Emerald. It was the best man. Yeah, does the starters we had fucking Trico Mudkip torch chick Yeah, treecko was treecko still is my favorite starter mines market and evolved into subtile buy in. And I Pokemon Emerald was the only game I was like, I don't even remember. I was like five or something. Maybe like I was five or six. Yeah, it was like six. Yeah, I caught every Pokemon. I trade my mana max. I did everything you're supposed to do in a Pokemon game. It was probably the only game I ever did that. Yeah. And then once I did the Gameboy era games like I played the Gameboy Color era games which was Emerald Ruby Sapphire by red leaf green. The next one was Diamond and Pearl. Yep. And I even know Emerald is my favorite and I remember that was my first game. Diamond and Pearl probably were like my child there.
8:25
Well actually diamond a pro for my first game. I got them for Christmas or Easter whatever. Whichever holiday for the year they came out. Yeah. That was my first Pokemon game. I spent about three hours replaying the first route because I didn't know how to save the game from it so I have to go do something come back I have to restart. I used to do that a lot. I eventually figured it out. took me a while to figure out that there's a right you had to make in Juba life city to get rock smash because that cave right past it has rock smash did not know that because I was six Yeah, so it took me a little bit to figure that one out. But once I did I cruise to that game and that those games are so good. I remember
9:09
it's so for some of the games like the you know the games black and white. Yeah, I remember vaguely like areas Yeah, but still clear. But Diamond and Pearl. I can remember like every route Yeah, I remember all the special events because back in the day when you had a Nintendo DS and you had the Pokemon games, you could get an Action Replay. Yeah, you could it was so easy to hack these games and it wasn't like illegal or anything. You buy my games? Yeah. And you could like do all these cool events and stuff using the the Action Replay. I hacked in and deserve flu. Yeah, and this is back when Pokemon did actual events. Yeah, for like legendaries now it's kind so good. We'll talk about this later in the episode how game three kind of decreased. Yeah, but back in the day, they used to make these crazy events for absurd. legendaries like archeage, which the new game is centered around archies is basically like God is
9:56
spokeman going to be the first time you get arcus legitimately. I'm pretty Sure because at least in the US because the Azur flute mystery gift never made its way over here
10:05
Diamond and Pearl were dark games man like they were they had dark that's a serious Norbu Yeah. Which is obvious. All right Platinum is the third version of Diamond and Pearl, which was the best by far Platinum was fucking phenomenal, amazing. And Oh man, this generation fourth generation HeartGold SoulSilver fourth generation
10:23
Ozzie like the third and fourth generations, I would say we're primed to pay you Okay, you can't beat them. You had Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald firered leafgreen. Even Colosseum with third generation. Yeah. Then you had diamond pearl Platinum harco silver or some Mystery Dungeon like, though, like the games that came out in that? Was it a five year span I want to say yeah, about like, unbeatable,
10:50
so even Diamond and Pearl. Just like how they're getting remakes. Now it's a brilliant diamond and shining pearl. Back then they were still doing remakes. Because that was the fourth generation of Pokemon. And the remakes they had back then were of generation two, the originals were called golden silver. And the remakes were for the Nintendo DS, and they were called HeartGold and SoulSilver. They had beautiful aesthetics. They're like the graphics are pretty good for a DS game. And they had amazing features. But in the games, which is based off the originals, you can get these things called Apple corns. And they were like these Apple looking things. And you can make poker balls out of them. Yeah. And it was it kind of gave lore to like the poker balls and stuff like that. But they kind of appear to look like apples. Yeah. And as we all know, apples are used to make a beautiful drink called cider. And I know we did a cider episode last week, but I don't know yet. We're doing it again. But this time this is these are kind of different ciders. These aren't like so the last time we did like they were straight ciders like they were. They were authentic. They were not that these aren't. But they were at just pure apple. There wasn't like anything special about them. This week, we're doing some apples. We're doing some ciders that we gathered from the local distributor. And we have some interesting ones with some interesting flavors. So the first one we have here is called Mackenzie's black cherry hard cider. And I'm going to read their blurb and stuff now. So McKenzie, hard cider, black cherry. There's not much about it. So Mackenzie's based on what I looked in, is more like one of the bigger brands kind of like Angry orchards and stuff like that. Okay, so there's not much about this drink. But what I do have here, it reads reserved for the darkest parts. Mackenzie's black cherry is an inspiration to hard cider. Rich Amber's full body what a refreshingly sweet cherry finish is described as sweet, cherry flavored smooth tart. And obviously Apple flavored is 5% ABV and AIB use and I've never described this on the show before. But just so everybody knows IB use is international bitter units, I believe. bittering units one of the two. And it's just like, it's not a real Oh, whoa, let me not say that. It's not really something you could like, a tribute to. We know like how science has Yeah, pints and leave. It's not really like that. It's kind of just like a gauge of how bitter to drink is. Okay, it's pretty low. So let's crack this
13:23
open. Actually, when I was picking up the other ciders, some on the cans had, I didn't say it was IV use, but it had a scale from sweet to sour. I'm assuming that's for like, out of whatever beers that company make or whatever standards that company makes. Each one has a different ranking on it. So I'm sure that the Ibu is probably has some kind of play into that. Yeah.
13:47
And as I say, every episode we're not experts were just Young Guns, drink a new shit and seeing our tastes. So Pat's ever been on the show? We just poured our drinks. You know, it's a again, as all ciders tend to look, it's looks like a white wine. Give it a good Wolf Pack. You definitely get a cherry smell. What does it smell like to you definitely get the cherry. To me it smells like a jolly rancher or me. No, you know what? You ever have one of those lozenges for when you have a sore throat? Oh Ludens Yeah, definitely. So that gluten. Oh my god is Luna doesn't have menthol. Yes. So it's just a cherry just a sweet cherry. Yeah. Well, let's give it a taste. It's Luda. Ash. That's really good. It's good. Don't get us wrong. Like we enjoy that loss of a sore throat. It tastes like candy. That's I don't taste apple. Actually, you know what a little bit Apple aftertaste I would say. But like that, that like artificial kind of? Yeah, I wouldn't necessarily say it's like biting into an apple. It's like no, like it's like a Apple a jolly rancher. Yeah, we're looking at like an apple lollipop from Halloween. Yeah, yeah. It's good. I wouldn't I definitely not obviously, like a pure unfiltered cider. It's meant for mass production. Yeah, but it's still good. I buy this. I used to like Angry orchards. I'd buy this over anger, which is these days.
15:09
Yeah. As I get older, this more sugary drink started to give me just worse and worse hangovers. But this is something I could definitely enjoy. This would be a good like, summer day drinking alcohol.
15:19
It's weird because I feel like this is sweeter than an angry orchard. Yep. But it doesn't have that sugary like it doesn't weigh you down. Like I drink angry orchards and it fills me up and all I want to do is just like puke it all out.
15:31
That's impressive. Because it says 28 grams of sugar. That is hefty. that's a that's a lot of fucking sugar.
15:38
But it's expected because ciders aren't alcohol made strictly from like, fucking fermented fruit
15:43
that's supposed to be sweet and sugary.
15:45
Yep. And they can be bitter and dry like wine.
15:48
But though that's more like the unfiltered bottled again when I was picking them up. As I do the selection, a lot of them said sour, bitter tart.
15:57
There's a wide range. Yeah, well, I could probably make a whole other podcast based on sideways honest but that's what tipsy talk is for and and beer saw it as a beer podcast necessarily. It's just a fucking drink and have a podcast. Exactly. And you know what would have been good with alcohol? Was that any other Pokemon games man If I could go back in time and relive Emerald, but with a glass? No, wait, let me rephrase that with a 30 rack area of beer. I would have the best night of my life. Yes, sir. You know what? I might have to do that because I did not buy the DLC for the new games yet. I got to finish those four by the new new games. That
16:33
is true. I didn't play I love armour account. tunja yet
16:36
I heard they were pretty good. I did hear
16:38
they're a good 100 and the base game. My self as I'm sure most longtime Pokemon fans were pretty disappointed with orange shield. Yeah, I definitely think they're better than Sun Moon. Sun and moon are my least favorite news in the series. No
16:50
Sun Moon ultra sun and moon are some of my favorite games of this. I didn't play those because I hate Sun Moon. So like Sun and Moon were bad. And it's kind of weird, because I'll just set the moon don't change that much. Yeah, but play them for some reason. They're just better. They're just, there's so much more world building. Okay, the story gets a little wonky towards the end. But the post game story is like, you know, into the spider verse. Yeah. Do you know anything about these? I don't want to spoil it. We'll just Uh, no. Ultraman Okay, so like, it's kind of like a multiverse type thing going on? Yeah. So the multiverse exists in Pokemon, which is crazy. Well,
17:23
they talk about that in Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire. Yeah, that's where it started to help episode Yeah. And it just because I banged on it,
17:29
it is the crazy thing that is that the reason they did that was because they wanted to make it feel like every player's experience was their own world. And the easiest way to explain that and make it all make sense. Because like, you know, when you play like a Zelda game, you are that link. Yeah. So when they made this, they were just like, you know, fuck it, let's make it a multiverse. Every player is its own universe. That's why every player is different. And that's why they can interact with each other. Because they're different universes just yeah. The lore Pokemon, because yeah, Dee Dee Gandhi. Yeah. What's your favorite memory of Pokemon?
18:05
There's a lot beating Cynthia. The first time. She was tough. Exactly. And like I said, Diamond hammer my first Pokemon game. I was fucking six years old. This is back when spiritomb didn't have any weaknesses. Even if he did, I didn't really know type matchups that well, I kind of learned them as the game went on. So you kind of accomplishing that for the first time as 16 year old becoming the world champion, Boogeyman awesome feeling. Another favorite memory of mine was definitely completing the pokey dex. I did it twice and send him an x and y are I had y version and Omega Ruby. I completed the bogey dex. Really? Yep, whole thing barring typicals because obviously, you can't really get those kcom on the GTS and though they have their own whole category, and it was super easy and Gen six Gen six has hands down the best like interface for online activities. The PSS thing the like the global trade system. Oh, it just may when that
19:04
got introduced. Then
19:06
it just made everything so much easier because all you had to do was just tap on your bottom screen go to the GTS either search for Pokemon you want put up a Pokemon for someone that you want. It was very accessible. Very easy. I got the shiny charm. Plenty of Chinese with that. Those two I definitely felt very like proud of myself. What's yours?
19:28
My favorite memory is showing up. Fuck I can't remember the city names. What's the crater city in Emerald? Like topless? is showing up topless after the eighth gym? Yeah, yeah. When you when you got there before you fought the ATM when you got the porter story reason which was Oh, the chi yoga and grout on
19:46
so I add that to my list. They're fighting each other that it was crazy. And then all of a sudden you're just like wondering what the fuck
19:53
am I gonna do? I'm right. quaza comes down from the heavens. And he goes Yo, bitches. Stop it shut the fuck up, kids go home, and they just go away. And then it's just like, because at that point every other story it was you changing the tides in this story, it was like shit. There's nothing we could do the world about the end, and then request that comes down. Yeah. And it's like, I'm the master of these two masters of elements. Get the fuck out of here. And then your goal is to finish the, you know, the Pokemon League, which you do. And then you're just like, you know, in those games, you're still a 10 year old kid. Yeah. In game, and you're just like, your characters just like fuck it. I'm gonna go catch grout on Kai yogurt. Yeah, and then I'm gonna go motherfucking GET request at the top of the sky pillar.
20:42
Do you require that before the league? Would you? Oh, yeah, you're right. You're right. Because by that time in the game, you're poking my probably maybe high level 50s in that area, maybe some early level 60s. Cosmo 70 when you catch him? Yeah, the Pokemon League was also all around high 50s low 60s. Yep. So you get that request with outrage. Extreme speed whether the fuck you want to
21:06
just do it everybody?
21:08
You could sweep that league with rayquaza alone, which is absurd. And you know what?
21:15
The new games the sword and shield? Yeah, they have a similar moment to that where it's actually kind of a little bit more epic if they did it right. You go to fight the league, and you walk on stage that games a base around England. So the soccer is like a theme in the game you walk onto the soccer field which is the Pokemon battlefield ready to fight the elite for like you're in the championship league like you're you're about a when you're about to go in and kick the champions ass. And then all of a sudden earthquake starts happening. And this fucking god like Pokemon? aterna this right, let's turn to this. He shows up because someone summoned him. And it was so equitable, so bad as if they just did it. Right.
21:55
Yeah, the what's it called the president of the Pokemon League is the one that like was trying to use the road. Yeah. Which I feel like they didn't give him enough kind of role in the story for him to do anything. Because if evil team team yellower Yeah, team yell, they were just fans of one of the fucking gym leaders. Like in every game set, but prior, the enemy, the enemy team that runs you all fight. They work for the main bad guy. So this guy, he's just like, Oh, hey, what's up? Welcome to the gym challenge. hope you have fun. And then next thing you know, he's just trying to take over the world.
22:33
Well, it's kind of interesting, because some people actually really enjoyed this part of the game. So every other Pokemon game, it's your this kid, some games, your time, some games, your 16, one game or even like 18 I think it's in black and white, I'm pretty sure you're 18 years old, and they've made black and white to Yes, no matter what age, you're just this kid starting the journey. And by the end of the journey, you're saving the world. And it's your purpose to save the world. Like all the characters push you to save the world, the champions like it's up to you in this game. Your one goal is to beat the league, like any other games that started off as the goal, but it never ended that way. It said you became kind of like a god. And these games, your goal is to beat the league and nothing's gonna stop you. And the adults along the way, are like, Listen, usually your goal will take care of the important matters. Yeah. But simultaneously, while you play through your main goal, all you see is failure after failure from the adults to figure out what's going on. That's true. And it's up to you to save the day in the end. But it's not like you became this God, you saved the day through the help the willing help of the two legendaries. If you didn't go catch them, they came to help you because they know you needed help. It is cool that they see that you're worthy. Yes. And so when these new games is kind of more realistic, because instead of you becoming a sort of God that captures another god, yeah, it's you just going about your day to day, this dude, Rose gets in the way of your goal. And you're just like, I have to do something about it. You can't do it on your own. But these Pokemon sense the will in you and they come and help you was actually an interesting plot twist. It was an interesting plot twist. And I think I think
24:10
the games are good. They just could have been better. It could have been executed a lot better. Yeah, that was one of my main issues was sword and shield is it. Most games pretty much since Gen six is the handholding is just kind of getting Oh, it was it was heavy. They toned it down and sword and shield. But the game themselves were just super linear. Again, sword and shield. It's pretty much you just follow the route. It's like you go to this city, like you leave your hometown go through water, you get to the big town, then you make a left, you just keep following the path whatever new route is at the end of the town. In most of the previous games, there's optional routes through which you could take I know I believe in Kanto and Johto you could take on the gems in several different orders. Yeah, I'm not sure you do that in the other game.
24:54
I think I think they started letting you do that more often.
24:58
I feel like in these recent games, they kind of Just like you're here, then you go here then you go here i think
25:02
i think sword and shield are very much like that. And oh, an ultra Sun and Moon. I'm pretty sure you can change up the order. Okay, that's it again. I didn't play that But don't take my word for it son of moon. I don't remember those games alone were a long time ago now.
25:14
Yeah, so this is obviously a big gripe with a lot of longtime Pokemon players that are getting too easy. And I thought to myself, as in many others, like, you know, maybe just getting older. I understand Pokemon more, so maybe I'm just kind of rolling it. I recently went back and played platinum and holy shit. Was I wrong? Those games are still hard as fuck yeah, yeah, they
25:34
used to be really hard. And they still are. The gameplay mechanics may be for kids, but the storyline, the lore behind it, the world building not someone's creative, like baby like someone made that world and they put their effort into it. And if you take the time to appreciate it, you will find so many things I will put like your DND fucking home crafted story to shame.
25:58
I say a lot of the Pokemon stories handle pretty adult topic. Exactly. And it's like when you're a kid you realize, Oh, this guy is trying to go over the road. Oh, this guy's trying to take over the world.
26:07
And next and why lasondra fucking died. Yeah, he got fucking died. And you saw it happen. Yeah. In in Diamond and Pearl. Yes, Cyrus got taken away by the damn devil.
26:20
Yeah. And you honestly, when you get older and you start to pay to add more to the story. You got to see their point sometimes. Yeah. Like, and black and white. This kind of like, people don't really deserve to have Pokemon like, they should be free. And like when your kid you like no, he's trying to take my Pokemon but like, you know, you're kinda like, I mean, he sort of has a point.
26:46
Yeah. A lot of a lot of evil teams are really good. Yeah, they were really good. The newest evil team, as we mentioned before suck but Team Galactic. We're gonna keep going back to diamond and pro because we're really excited for the remakes. And because that's one of some of our favorite games. Yeah. Team Galactic was the fucking Chitty, Chitty Chitty bowl cuts. Pop party people.
27:09
They were cool, bro. I was doing a platinum nose lock recently. And I got over to the storage room world didn't lose any Pokemon. And Cyrus but waited me out black man, whatever it's called when you lose I lost the damn game. Yeah, and I just I had it was an emulator on my laptop. I exited out. And I've not opened it since. Because that shit we got frustrated there. I had Cisco Look, I picked my I picked her tweakers my starter two I picked back when I was six. That's why I stick with I think he is probably one of the best. I know. A lot of people go with infernape because you only have it for an April rapidash to pick from. I still like turtwig better. You could find other people to cover firefighters weaknesses. Got a starley on my first first encounter got a shinx on my first encounter. Like I had some good poking around on my team and then this asshole just wiped me out. And I was like, Fuck this. I can't because you go to this door sharing world. six stages and I think Yeah, so it's like I'm more than halfway through the game probably 1015 hours into it and I lose. Yeah, that shit hurt.
28:21
You know what else hurts like that? I'm fucking thirsty. And I I need a drink. I hurting me. I agree. I think it's time we tie our next cider. So our next cider is made by Ace California. It is a guava craft cider. And let me read the little blurb for you. As guava cider was inspired by a trip to Brazil, where we enjoyed Brazil's national cocktail. A key Parana Okay, come on. You're Puerto Rican. You see what it pronounces. It says keep Parana keeper Ana, you go ahead and you try and read it kept her on, keep her on. blended with their local guava juice. The guava juice is so refreshing. We just knew we had to make a cider with it. experience a taste of Brazil Ace guava, a blend of our semi dry apple cider with Brazilian pink guava juice, fresh guava aroma, citrusy, mouthfeel and a ridiculously smooth finish. You'll find it impossible to put this down Cheers. Or as they say in Brazil, so j so yeah, this is really cool. Because even though I'm not too fluent in Spanish, I am. I am Puerto Rican. And guava has been a big part of like my life. Every time I go to Puerto Rico to see my family, there's guava pastries, you could guava paste the either with cheese, they put it on sandwiches, you like guava.
29:38
I'm Irish. For those who don't know if you can tell by the name, my name is Patrick. So you're going to tell them Irish. Anytime I go to a Mexican restaurant Cantina, if they have a guava Margarita on the menu, I'm probably going to get that while I was good.
29:52
This is 5% ABV and let's crack it open. Right I always leave in So most podcasts cut that out. I leave it in satisfied. I like the sound. This is this is a little. It is a little pink. And it has head interesting. I guarantee solid Whopper from here. I don't even have it close to my nose. So this is a very pink, a pink yellow cider. It had a little bit of head but it dissipated quickly. And like Pat said, you could smell the guava. If you take a whiff of that. It's not like a hint of guava. guava paste. I can tell you when I get fruit shipped in from one of my uncle's from Puerto Rico, we cut open the damn guava all I'm smelling is the meat of the fruit and the seeds. It doesn't even smell like pastry guava paste that. Wow. Oh, that sounds like that sounds like home. Let's try it. All right. That's incredible. That's really good. This could be its own thing. This could be just you could just make a bunch of variations of this. Yeah, and call it its own thing I ever said because this I don't use apple. Not at all. It's just it's that you taste the guava skin, the fruit and the seeds. I feel like I bit into a guava. Wow, that's phenomenal. So here's the thing, a lot of drinks get that taste wrong. And they taste like booty cheeks. This is so good. This is really good. I forgot to mention it's not clear. It's very hazy. And that's because I'm pretty sure this is this is unfiltered. So it's gonna be hazy. It's gonna have more of that fruit flavor. No. It might have been on the box. It's also gluten free vegan, and no sugar added. Yes. If anybody's listening to the show, then you have a slight gluten problem. Or you know people that are gluten problem they don't drink ciders are your way to go. A lot of breweries might have some not breweries. cideries. I don't know if that's what they're called farms. They'll make cider with gluten, but oftentimes, they won't have gluten. They tend to be gluten free. That's so good. Yeah, this is very good. Wow. So this might be my favorite. This is my favorite one so far. I'm only too busy. I was on deck. Yep. One on deck. That was something special. Yeah. And we're gonna keep sipping on this, but we're gonna take a quick break because it's a little hot out today. We'll be back for you guys in five seconds for us however long it takes. And we're back with Tipsy talking. It was five seconds for you guys. For us. It was about maybe an hour maybe a little bit more. Had to recover a little bit. recovers a strong word tipsy talking is definitely adding the tipsy to the talk. And at this moment. That was trash. I'm okay. Yeah, so we're in the 11th hour of this episode. And you know, we usually drink a lot during these episodes, but this particular time, I can't even look at bag because he's he's Season Season od over here. I'm gonna look at them anyway. We were talking a lot about Pokemon, and all the mainline games, but the good thing about Pokemon is that they have a lot of spin offs. An incredible amount of spin offs, and a lot of them are really fucking good. Yeah, Coliseum Coliseum x de gales the darkness Brooklyn Ranger Siri my favorite Mystery Dungeon. Mystery Dungeon was good when it was two D Yeah, now it's kind of goofy. lesser known one Pokemon battle revolution. Oh, he made me that all the way all the way. Oh, yeah, that was the first game that incorporated like real time but no, it wasn't Colosseum did but that revolution did it better.
33:29
That was Gen four. Yeah. Also more specifically being able to transfer my Pokemon from Diamond and Pearl into revolution.
33:37
Here's the scary thing about battle revolution. Now, if you transfer to hack Pokemon, it would transfer over as a bad egg. Oh man, it would be like, dude, it was crazy. It was like a zombie virus. If that happened slowly over time, all your other Pokemon would turn into bad egg. Yep. And of course that'd be something cheesy like a bad egg. But yeah, it was scary. It happened to me. All my Pokemon turned into bad eggs. I was like No.
34:01
Do you ever hack and another cool thing about our evolution is I believe that was like one of the first games that really incorporated the full size of Pokemon Yes, well,
34:11
Lord was here
34:12
you have a wailord versus a Caterpie. And the size difference is fucking enormous.
34:18
And it's crazy because even in the new games with the 3d models and battle animations, yeah, they're not up to scale. Now will Lord not like nothing like battle revolution? Speaking of games like that, it's a little different. But have you played Pokemon? I've played it a couple times. So gaming fans out there. pogon was a collaboration between Pokemon you know, Game Freak, and who makes tecan Namco Capcom Oh, Namco Namco kamkar. And that's what it was. I think it's Namco. Yeah, it was a collaboration between Pokemon and tecan called Pokemon and nature and Pokemon fight is basically in detecting fighters and it was awesome. Other than that, the fun game. He was so on. rated to Yeah, um,
35:02
I think because I think the perfect game on the Wii U if I'm yeah and the way you was a pretty underwhelming console.
35:09
Yeah, but the switch dx version is fucking Yeah, definitely Who were some of the newer characters from the switch version? I think I think blast voice was a new addition. There's some other ones in there. You can play as dark cry, which is really cool. Yeah, great game fantastic game and recently is he talking about spin offs? They came out with a MOBA so those of you out there who play video games like League of Legends or Dota they came out with Pokemon unite. I haven't played that one yet so it's you have a switch? I do yeah, obviously you played sword and shield download unite. Let's play some unite. I heard it's a really good MOBA.
35:43
I've heard it a lot of fun I've seen some things are could be sort of pay to win.
35:48
Some of the champions champions is a you know League of Legends term. Yeah, pick the champion are a good friend of ours just playing League of Legends a lot. But in this game, you have certain Pokemon new players like Luke Carrio or Cinder Ace, which is a newer starter. So they're adding a new a new batch and they update well. Yeah. But the cool part is, is that instead of buying items and weapons like you would in Liga legends, the more you level up in the game, you evolve, gaining new skills and shows normally would buy weapons, you level up and gain skills. In this game, you level up and you gain new skills and perks and you evolve in the meantime. So let's say that you send a race as your quote unquote champion, you start up a score Bunny and you just fight through a new level up and by the end you're kicking ass. It seems like a cool concept. haven't played it yet.
36:35
You know, as a college student money can be tight, so I haven't really bought many games. I will be buying brilliant I'm starting Parolin legit RTS
36:43
Pokemon you like free Pokemon unite is free to play interesting. Okay, so yeah, let's give it a go. We haven't we haven't done something like that in a while. Yeah, no, I'm definitely down to try that out. You know, the incredible part about Pokemon is its cultural outreach. So it goes beyond games. We talked about mainline game spin off games. There's been a there's been TV series. Yep. So it infiltrated our childhoods through TV. Yep. It's become movies. Now. They made a live action movie based on a game called detective Pikachu. And you know what? The movie was pretty good. It's been more than that. The trading card game. I used to collect all these cards, and I still have them in my attic. Oh, me too. Yeah. And I don't know what to do. I guess Sarah sell them on eBay. I've considered started playing card games again.
37:31
But there's a huge boom over the summer. So over the pandemic. I know I have some rare cards because I have a lot of older ones because obviously I started playing when I was six. Yeah. Which was about for the game escape the United States and what 97 or so 9999 Okay, so
37:48
then when I was born him
37:49
Yeah, so then I the games were only here for seven years. It's been 14 years since then. I've dealt to species cards I have, he acts. Like I have some old ass packs. And like I have like some like, door species like don't just be like, I have a Herodotus like water steel or something like that. I have a electric rayquaza he acts like he's talking about
38:14
he's talking about Pokemon cards, the types of Pokemon cards that used to come out like variants emblem.
38:20
Yeah, there are some pretty rare ones that I know I have that I've seen go for some decent money, history sound but also there's like, I don't want to sell them because those are my childhood. Yeah, it's like, Look, I mean, a lot.
38:31
The cultural outreach is huge. Yeah, my Gameboy Color is even a it's peekaboo themed I showed you like, yeah, it's just incredible how one video game franchise has become the most popular. It's a status it's held for a while I think until recently. I'm not sure. I would love to double check my facts, but this is tipsy talking and I'm tipsy. And I'm just going to talk if not the it is one of the biggest franchises without a doubt. And it's kind of a shame because game three could put a little more effort but you know what I thought I thought about shit talking Game Freak for a little bit, but I don't really want to I'm kind of having fun with the cultural outreach conversation. Yeah. Oh, I know. Exactly. Another thing to pull out. What's that? Pokemon adventures? You know what I'm talking about that the comic books? Yeah. So the manga Yeah, yes, those are good. So this is an interesting case where manga which is like Japanese comic books, were translated to English. But instead of being something hard to find, or like, ridiculed, if you were like, Yo, I read Pokemon adventures, you'd be like, yeah, that's a sick comic book. These graphic novels depicted the Pokemon universe, accurately lore rise, lore wise, but we're so darn there in a whole different way. Yeah. And it was people still love them because of how dramatic and dark they
39:56
were. I read a couple of them. Yeah, they were dark. They really We expanded upon the universe in a way that the games never have
